3 Ways Entrepreneurs Are Like Comedians

by Kevin M Roy on July 1, 2010

Just because you’re reading my blog does not mean that you’re an ideal client of mine.  Hell, you could hate me and just be looking for some more ammo to use against me.  So until, you become a client, leave a comment, or otherwise join the conversation in some way: I can’t worry too much about you.  Sorry, but it’s true.  Passive people who don’t take action are not of much use in the business world.  I mean, if you’re reading this now, what harm would it be to share it on facebook or twitter?  None, that’s right it won’t hurt you one bit, but it will help me out.  Just sayin’…  how’s about a little love right over there, up and to the right a bit: you know where ;-)

Back to business.

I have no idea what your sense of humor is, and neither do comics when they get up on stage.  But, you know what?  They still get up on stage and do their thing hoping that people will laugh at their jokes, their schtick, or just their style of style of delivery.  They do it because it’s part of who they are and they love it.  You couldn’t do what they do if it was just about the money.  Do what you love.

Now, watch this video.  It’s from a comedian, (Daniel Tosh, who by the way, is pretty funny in my book) and he actually delivers some good career advice.  Take it or leave it, just remember he’s a comedian.

Career Advice – Daniel Tosh

Here’s the three things that you should take from this…

1) Don’t take it too seriously and try to have fun.

2) You shouldn’t waste your time on prospects who clearly aren’t going to turn into clients.

My favorite part is when he talks about the cowboy lifestyle (which I totally agree with)

Why do I do what I do? So nobody can tell me what to do.  So, what would be my advice?

3) Don’t listen to what I’m about to tell you to do. Ever  ;-)

I’ll end with that.  If you watched the video, you already broke one of my rules, so leave a frickin’ comment!  Think of it as applause.  Hello, anybody there?  Don’t be shy…
